About J. David Maciuk

Born: Sault Ste Marie Ontario

My passion for the sport of hockey stems from being involved in every facet of the game over 35 years. Growing up in Canada and playing all my minor hockey through junior (Soo Greyhounds), tests your limits and abilities and forms experiences you can only learn by going through.

Playing minor pro hockey in Chicago, at 18 yrs old with the Chicago Warriors ( USHL minor pro), opened my eyes to the business side of the sport. That’s where my involvement in coaching and teaching started.

I worked for the Gene Ubriaco hockey schools in the off season. 1972 (Rolling Meadows Park District). Gene went on to be one of the top coaches in the business, coaching the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1989.

Stan Mikita invited me to work at his Hearing Impaired hockey schools, which was very rewarding and was an annual event for many years. An example of a player coming out of Stans school is Kevin Delaney, now a hockey pro, who also works with the Chicago Black Hawks as skills instructor.

Making my home in Chicago after a short minor pro career, I was instrumental with the start of the Chicago Young Americans in 1982. I coached the first team in that organization and had a group of players I trained from 10 years old until 17 years old. That team won a National Championship after one year in existence and reached the finals every year after that thru midget.

That team produced 4 NHLers and the rest of the team played at schools such as Michigan, Michigan State, Harvard, Denver, Bowling Green, Yale, Notre Dame and St. Lawrence. Todd Reirdan from that group, is now the assistant coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While coaching that team, I worked for a leading advertising company, servicing Independent pharmacies around the world, reaching sales just under 200 million. The last ten years being the vice president of sales.

Having players involved in the NCAA and pro side, opened my eyes to the short comings of the process, which helped gain valuable experience that I use in today’s placement of my clients.

I was the president of Mentor Group Sports Management for twelve years. During that period, we negotiated contracts and placed players at every level of the sport, again gaining valuable experience with major junior players as well as NCAA graduates.

The last 7 years, I was the Vice President of hockey operations/Hockey Director and coached several age groups. We have placed plenty of players during that period, to all levels of pro and NCAA programs. Most notably, Alex Galchenyuk, at 19 years of age, plays for the Montreal Canadians, Josh Balch, now playing at Yale and in this years final four. Matt Linblatt just signed with Boston Bruins after his college career at New Hampshire, Vince Loverde, Miami of Ohio graduate, currently playing for the Los Angels Kings AHL affiliate, plus several other NCAA and pro placement.

My u16 CYA 1996 team had the top three scorers in the HPHL, Chris Dodero, Max Kalter and Patrick Curry, which resulted in USHL draft picks , NAHL draft picks with potential NCAA scholarships in the works. That team was rated top 12 in the country, with all first year players.

My involvement in the sport, as a player, teacher, coach, agent and hockey director, gives me the experience and insight to understand what level of commitment is necessary to succeed in this sport.

My passion and dedication to your success, is first and foremost. No call will go unanswered or any questions avoided.

Philosophy

With 35yrs of industry experience, relationships that span life long, JDMC can provide the direction needed, to insure the proper fit and environment needed to have the path to your academic and athletic goals achieved.

The most important factor in this process, is good information on your abilities and an honest evaluation of your skill set. Unless you have professional direction, most of the information you will receive on your player will consist of a selfish intent from the person giving to you.

There are only three things a player can have in his control as a player, strength, conditioning and work ethic. JDMC understands the dedication that athletes put into becoming the best that they can be and the sacrifices families make to ensure their success.

JDMC can provide the program needed to get the athletes ”what they earn ” in the game they love. JDMC will answer any questions you may have and provide references upon request, of clients that have successfully been placed thru our guidance.
