 Johnson a Native of Northern Minnesota, with a wealth of hockey knowledge, he has coached at high levels for years from Duluth East Greyhounds, (MSHL), Shattuck St Mary’s ( Back to Back National Championships), Sicec Northam ,Engelberg Switzerland , Minot Minotauros (NAHL) and now currently coaching Ely High School , where he was the High School Coach of Year Section 7A in 2017.
 
Johnson grew up in Duluth Mn, where he spent his days playing outdoor hockey, street hockey, pretty much everyday. He Played High School for Duluth East Greyhounds and won a Minnesota state championship, the played in the USHL for the North Iowa Huskies , and the Rochester Mustangs, then signed to the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL, and played in the 1999 Memorial Cup.
 
Johnson competed in three USA Winter Deaflympics as a player before joining the team as an assistant coach as the won the gold medal in 2019 in Italy. He led the U.S. team in scoring en route to a gold medal at the 2007, 2004, 1999 Winter Deaflympics. Johnson, now 41, is in his sixth season as the head coach at Ely High School and also coaches the Minnesota Wild Sled Hockey team. He is also CEO at Heavy Metal Hockey, a business located in Tower Mn.
