Nick Naumenko – West Coast Director
My deep rooted passions for hockey began in 1978 in Chicago. It began at the old Chicago Stadium watching the Blackhawks climb those old stairs and take the ice with the song “here come the Hawks, the mighty Blackhawks” playing in my head over and over again.
I started out playing Illinois AA hockey at 5 yrs. old and was fortunate enough to begin my AAA hockey career for the Chicago Young Americans as a Pee-Wee. That pee wee season we went on to win the prestigious Quebec Pee-Wee Tournament, a hockey highlight I will never forget. I had a couple of memorable youth hockey coaches along the way, Real Turcotte and my father Wally Naumenko to name a few who were instrumental in shaping me as a young hockey player. I went on to play in the USHL as a 16 year old playing for coaches like Mark Kaufman(asst. Coach Ferris St.) and Cary Eades (Head Coach Fargo Force)who prepared me for college hockey. After 2 years in the USHL I took 5 official college visits to find the best college fit. In 1992 I began a 4 year career at the Universtiy of North Dakota, playing for Gino Gasparini(retired), Dean Blais(Head Coach-University Nebraska-Omaha), Scott Sandelin(Head Coach Minnesota-Duluth). I was also fortunate enough and honored to represent the USA on 5 different occasions covering the globe in International competition throughout my career. In 1992 I was drafted By the St. Louis Blues and turned pro in 1996 where I began a pro career that lasted 15 years, finishing my last 4 years in the Swiss A league. I played in 4 Spengler Cups representing the host team Hockey Club Davos. I retired from professional hockey in 2011.
Currently I reside in Scottsdale AZ. In my 6 years after playing I have coached AAA youth hockey for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes from U14 to U18, I was in the medical Sales field for 3 years and opened a Commercial Real Estate office in Scottsdale AZ. focusing on multifamily investment and 1031 exchanges.
My passion for advising young players came from seeing the lack of guidance many young players and there families are receiving. There is far too much “bad information” out there much of it driven by selfish reasons and many in the industry are looking for the “path of least resistance” in advising young players and their families. In the last 37 years I have been to every level these young players are aspiring to get to. I have an intricate knowledge of the many paths possible, and the steps to be taken to achieve the goals of a young, dedicated player. During my 37 years of hockey I have cultivated and maintained a plethora of long lasting relationships in the game of hockey, from Coaches to GM’s to Scouts to Hockey Directors to Franchise Owners all of whom like myself are giving back to this great game that has given us so much. My sole focus is on advising players and there families and guiding them through the process of going from youth hockey to Junior Hockey to College Hockey.
My philosophy is that hockey/life is about winning more than you lose. As a player you can ask yourself everyday after practice, games, off ice training “did I win or lose today?” There is no gray area. That is the beauty of this great game. When you shoot on the goalie in practice you have two choices you either win or you lose. Score or don’t. When you go one on one you either won or you lost. When you are doing sprints you either won or you lost. When there is a loose puck you either got the puck or you didn’t. When you are training and you are trying to squat 300lbs 5 times you either won or you lost. When you are trying to run a mile under 6mins, you either did or you didn’t, you won or you lost. When you start to build up more wins than losses you will find success! When you continue to do the things that will help you have more life wins than losses you will find success. Not only hockey success but you will become a high achiever in life. This is the attitude that I will take in my approach and the attitude I will expect from a young player if he/she wants to have success. If a young player has the drive to do what it takes to attain his or her goals it would be my privilege to guide them through this very difficult process.

Post junior hockey, Charlie has attended a number of NHL training camps to date (Bos ’11, NYR ’13, TB ’15).

Charlie’s teammates have always known him to be the hardest worker at everything he does. Whether that’s on the ice in practice and games, or off the ice training for it. He’s always said that’s something you can always control.
